A time to honor African Americans' significant contributions to American history, Black History Month is an annual celebration highlighting their accomplishments and drawing attention to their crucial place in American history. The celebration, also known as African American History Month, evolved from Negro History Week, an initiative by the prominent Black historian Carter G. Woodson and other notable African Americans. Additionally, other nations around the world, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, also honor Black heritage for an entire month. While celebration of Black history has evolved from a week to a month, Black history is American history! This Black History Project shares Black history lessons, regardless of the time of year.
